How to spiritually deal with painPAIN AND GAIN

This class provides a spiritual perspective on the neurobiology of pain,  peripheral nerves, broken heart syndrome and emotional pain impacting our well being and creating empathy.

This 4 week course starts July 14 and runs from 9:15 to 10:10 am.

This class will be taught by Conny Nussbaum, PhD.

After attending medical school at EMAU in Germany, Conny earned advanced degrees in Human Biology and Immunology, from the University of Greifswald, Germany; was a scientist and frequent lecturer on Psychoneuroimmunology winning numerous awards for her research and is a German Research Society doctoral scholar and a Post-doctoral Scholar at UCLA. Currently, the director of research at a growing software applications firm; Conny has been a Christian for 4 years and has been married to husband, Ben for two and one half years.

“Born Identity – The Religious Environment of First Century Judea”

This fascinating and insightful course offers an in depth perspective on the historical context that led to the development of the 3 chief influences at the time of Christ – the Sadducees, Essenes and Pharisees. The goal will be to gain an understanding of the religious environment of Jesus, so that we may understand how radical and counter-cultural his teachings truly were.

This class runs 6 weeks and begins July 21. It will run from 9:15 to 10:10 am, and the instructor is Chris Zamora.

Chris earned his B.A. from UCLA in History and Religious Studies where he focused on ancient Rome and Christian origins.  He studied under S. Scott Bartchy, a renowned international authority in Jesus research and early Christianity.  While contemplating an advanced degree, Chris runs his own company.  He has been a Christian for 7 years and was recently married to his wife, Leah.

Breaking FreeBREAKING FREE

“Breaking Free” a men’s purity class.

This men’s workshop runs 6 weeks, starting July 14, from 9:15 to 10:10 am.

This course will be facilitated by Michael Newman, LMFT

After graduating from the University of Maryland, Mike went on to earn is Master’s in Psychology at Pepperdine University and also attended the California Graduate Institute. He worked in a Psychiatric Institute in Washington D.C, for LA County as a social worker and Children’s Services Administrator, and currently is the department administrator for the outpatient chemical dependency program for a local health network. A certified substance abuse counselor and certified in the Treatment of Victims and Perpetrators of Violent Crime, Mike has also served patients in his private practice for 10 years. He has been a Christian for 22 years and  married to his wife Lorelei for 19 years. They have four children.

Understanding the New Testament – A Sweeping Overview

Have you ever wondered how the letters of Paul fit into the chronology of Acts? Then this class is for you. Have you ever wondered what Jesus’ cultural experience was like – the people, the politics as well as the power of Rome? Then this class is for you.

And the bonus is that we will spend one class focused on the (surprising) single greatest issue that threatened the early church. And it was very likely NOT what you might be thinking.

Every class will be taught from the angle of “what  practical lessons can we learn that affect our day to day lives in the 21st century church”.

Book: There will be no book for this class. Only a Bible required; reading materials provided at each class.

Interactive class on worship. Based on Jesus’ command, “Love the Lord with all your mind,”, this class will include brief lectures on the brain and introduce practical exercises to improve your prayers, relationships and worship.

The goal of this class is to help you draw closer to God. If that’s in line with your own personal goals for 2011, then this class is for you!

The book of Revelation is a remarkable book, containing fantastic imagery and poetic language.  Yet many suggest it cannot be understood.  This class looks at some of the incredible prophecies within this book whose purpose is to reveal Jesus Christ.

We will introduce you to the 4 key interpretative perspectives of Revelation - as well as helping you grow in your own faith that God always has been and always will be in control!

Book: There will be no book for this class. Only a Bible required; reading materials provided at each class.

Are you excited to share the Gospel with your friends? Is it your ambition to learn how to lead your friends through the scriptures and guide them towards salvation? Then this class is for you! We will take you by the hand and walk you through how to help your friends learn the basic Bible studies – that will equip them to make the best decision of their lives. We will offer many practical tips as well as mistakes to avoid.  

We are excited about the new study series as it has a few exciting enhancements…  The first introductory is called “The Good News”, the study following the Cross is also new and called “New Life”.  There are more scriptures in this series on the heart of the matter and the grace of God.  It will be a great time to learn the new study series as well as brush up on your own Bible knowledge.
